Dark Eyes by Half Moon Run

Half Moon Run is the newest band signed to the independent label of Glassnote Records. As you might have noticed from some previous posts, Glassnote is a label that I like a lot. Every one of the artists they’ve signed is enjoyable and talented. This latest one being from Montreal, and cranking out music that is soothing, with hints of indie rock, folk, and ambience in it. So far Dark Eyes is the only record I’ve heard from them, but they are also confirmed to play SXSW this year.

Elliott Smith

Elliott Smith is a super notable songwriter. I was introduced to him a few years ago by the song “Needle in the Hay”, but it was long after he passed away that I discovered him. He still left behind a legendary collection of music to be listened to though. He stands out a lot with his unique, almost whispery vocal style, and his great song structures and vocal melodies. Though his music is typically very sad, it can still be good to just sit back and put on to relax your mind a bit.

Genre: Singer/Songwriter, Indie Folk

The Wedding Band consists of Mumford and Sons and many of their friends. They released a four track EP a few years ago entitled “The First Dance”. It seems as though there’s been so much love for this group lately, but not too much mention of some of their other great side work too!

Little Green Cars

Now, one last Glassnote artist to post about. Little Green Cars is an indie rock / folk band from Ireland. They just played a few large shows in the states, like shows at CMJ and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. They’re definitely gaining momentum in the states quickly, and I’m sure we’ll see more from them soon! Below is their new music video for their single “The John Wayne”.

Daughter is one of the newer additions to the Glassnote Records family. They are a trio that plays a combination of indie music and folk music, and boy do they do this well! I recently had the pleasure of seeing them play in Electric Lady Studios in New York in front of a small crowd. Right when I got home I downloaded their EPs and have been listening to it since then!

Genre: Indie / Folk

So, I was going to make several posts about the different things that were released yesterday, September 25, but I figured it would have been too many posts, so here’s a list of things I have been enjoying from yesterday!

1.) Babel by Mumford and Sons

The folk group Mumford and Sons released their sophomore album “Babel” yesterday, one I’ve definitely been jamming. There’s a fairly extensive review here done by the Rolling Stone. Definitely a must listen album!

Genre: Folk

2.) Dead Years by This or the Apocalypse

Now this is an album I’ve been INCREDIBLY stoked on for a while. I’ve gotten to speak and hang out with Ricky Armellino, the singer of this band, a few times, and this entire band is just full of genuine guys. Not just genuine though, all super talented. One of the only bands in this genre lately doing innovative stuff. Here’s a video of their single “In Wolves”, but they also have a couple of music videos coming out soon, on has been posted on Alternative Press’ website here.

Genre: Metalcore

3.) “Quake” Music Video by Balance and Composure

I didn’t know about this until they posted it, but a really well made music video for a super good song by Balance and Composure!

Genre: Alternative / Indie Rock

4.) New Music Video Premiere for Lavender Diamond

Lavender Diamond is a musician I had never heard of before I was assigned her for my internship, but after listening to her album I definitely became a fan! She premiered a music video for a single off of her new album yesterday and is streaming the full album on a website here.

Genre: Indie / Pop

Now, I think those are the only four things I wanted to put up here, but if I remember anything else i’ll definitely update. Also, side note, the reason I didn’t post all of this yesterday was due to a pretty gnarly accident I had the night before, and I was out of commission for a bit!

Funny how my last post was about a group I discovered that opened for The Civil Wars, because this is another artist I heard for the first time when he opened for them, just on a different tour. Rayland Baxter is a folk musician from Nashville, and just last month released this new album of his. When I first saw him in New Orleans, I bought his EP that he had. They were all hand packaged by him and had a little wax seal on a paper bag. The EP had a few songs on it, but most notably to my friends and me was the track “Willies Song”. After we put that in the CD player, I swear every time that song came around we all wound up singing it like we’d been listening to it our whole lives.

Well, this full length has a few songs from the EP on it, as well as a host of other great songs. I don’t know why i’m just now getting around to buying it and jamming it a lot, as I was looking forward to it for several months since the release date was changed once in there. I also saw Rayland live several months after the New Orleans show at Fitzgeralds opening for Langhorne Slim. I believe I was one of the only people there that came to see him and not Langhorne Slim, but I also believe almost everyone left a fan of Rayland Baxter after his set. Check out his new CD though, below is a video of “Willie’s Song” live too!
